A Great Success

Opening day of the Media Farmers Market was a great success!  It was a lovely spring day and everything came together beautifully for our first market.

The excitement was palpable as Media residents, for the first time, browsed farm-fresh food in an open-air market right in town. The scent of strawberries filled the air. Spring lettuces, arugula, green onions, and hothouse tomatoes were some of the delicious produce offerings. Quarts of strawberries were consumed on the spot by delighted youngsters. Delectable artisanal cheeses from cows and goats milk were available for tasting. My House Cookies happily sold out (more next week, for sure!). There were tomato plant starts for home gardeners, honey and fruit butters, fresh eggs and various meats. Selene Co-op had a stand with vegetables and dry goods from their store.

One life-long Media resident said she had to keep pinching herself because she was so excited that a Farmers Market in Media was finally a reality.

Vendors were pleased with the opening day. The lot next to the Media Theater seems to be an ideal location for vendors as they can easily access the site. Vendors also appreciated the enthusiasm of the Media community and they feel that our town is a prime location for a market.

The feedback from shoppers was also positive. People are delighted to be able to purchase veggies, beef, cheese, berries, baked goods, etc. grown or produced right here in our region. Others described the market as “friendly”, having a “cheery presence” and supplying “great choices for local food.”

If you missed the market, we’ll be open this and every Thursday from 3-7pm until November 11th!  The same great vendors will be there, new producers will be coming through the season, and we’re looking forward to having some live music this week. We will be constantly improving the market, and there will always be something new to enjoy, so come on out!
