Big Sky Bread Co. has been a steady and much welcome presence at the market this season. They have a faithful following and always seem to attract market newcomers with their irresistible selection of baked goods. Where do these yummy treats and wholesome breads come from and who is the creative force behind this bakery?

Meet Patrick O’Neill – whose Wilmington, Delaware bakery also features a cozy cafe selling soups, sandwiches and specialties for kids. O’Neill is a Culinary Institute of America graduate. After stints at both Winterthur and Longwood Gardens, O’Neill opened Big Sky Bread about 11 years ago. The bakery features both rustic, European style sourdough breads, and healthy wheat and multigrain sandwich breads.

Everything you see at the market is made fresh daily. Anything that doesn’t sell at market (or at his Bakery) is given to a food kitchen in Wilmington. Every evening, 60 to 100 pounds of Big Sky Bread are taken to some of Delaware’s poorest citizens.
