Bob Althouse began planning his retirement in 1979 by planting trees. Based in Holtwood, PA, in Lancaster County, Althouse Farms now sells fruit from those trees to area farmers markets!

J&J Kettle Korn Returns!

J&J Kettle Korn’s authentic, hand-popped kettle corn is popped in an open kettle with oil and sugar. It is salted to taste after it is popped, giving kettle corn its slightly sweet, slightly salty flavor. Not to be confused with caramel corn, its flavor is not overwhelmingly sweet like that of caramel corn. J&J Kettle Korn uses mushroom corn kernels which pop larger, giving it that classic kettle-corn look. A portion of proceeds from all kettle-corn events are donated to charity.

Classical Guitarist Norm LeDonne Performing Tomorrow

An avid guitarist since he was 12, retired scientist Norm LeDonne has taken up his life-long dream of becoming a performing musician. He has built a repertoire of songs, from Bach to The Beatles, playing on harp guitar, six-string acoustic, and both round- and square -necked resonator guitars. He has started to write and tell stories, resulting in a unique combination of music and stories.

As a child, Cheryl Ames, owner of Sweet Salvation Truffles, remembered her grandmother’s refusal to share her coveted Christmas box of chocolate-covered cherries. Not to be denied, Cheryl became a confectionary prodigy and created truffles that put Grandmom’s cherries to shame. As Cheryl grew up, so did her techniques. Her passion progressed over the years through reading, participating in local confectionary courses, and experimenting with ingredients and recipes. Whenever someone new tried her truffles, they would say, “These are great! You should go into business.” So she did. (P.S., these truffles are gluten-free!)

melo studios co-owners Olivia Lotz and Jess Lee hand-pour each and every candle. Candles are made with 100% soy wax that comes from soy beans grown by U.S. farmers. Soy wax is a renewable resource and burns clean without the chemicals found in paraffin wax.  They use cotton wicks and reclaimed vintage containers and reusable mason jars. Lotz and Lee started selling candles at farmers markets and craft fairs, then moved into wholesale and manufacturing. They are still a small two-lady run business and love to create eco-friendly products for you and your family!

Tom Curtis, Jr., Performing Tomorrow!

Singer/songwriter Tom Curtis, Jr., is a self-taught guitarist living and performing in the Philadelphia area. Tom began writing original music when he and friends formed a band several years ago. When they parted ways, Curtis pursued a solo career. In 2009, Curtis debuted on the radio with his single, “Lie to Me,” which led to a six-track EP. His most recent single, “Passion,” is soon to be followed by a CD. Check him out tomorrow at the Media Farmers Market.
