It’s National Farmers Market Week! 🍅🌽🍑

National Farmers Market Week

August 4 through 10th is National Farmers Market Week! Come celebrate with us! August is the height of Pennsylvania produce, and we can help you learn how to preserve summer’s bounty to bring the flavors of summer to those cold winter days. Stop by to meet Linda and learn the basics of canning. She’ll talk about what fruits and veggies can be canned, as well as safety procedures you need to know.

We have the beef!

Pasture Song Farm is excited to bring pastured beef to market, starting this Sunday! The beef is from Wagyu-Jersey cross cattle that were grass finished. They were raised collaboratively by Jeremy (Jeremy and Clara are the partners who own and operate Pasture Song Farm) and Jeremy’s family, and are from Seven Stars Farm calves. The Wagyu breed is known for intense marbling, which translates into tender, delicious beef! These cattle grazed freely on 15 acres of perennial pasture, and were raised without antibiotics, hormones, and other modern crutches. As calves they were fed grain and milk, so they are not 100% grass fed. They weren’t fed grain for the last year, however, and were finished only on pasture. This leads to a healthier fatty acid profile in the meat, as well as other health and flavor benefits. To learn more ask Clara at market!

Take a moment to relax

Take a moment for yourself while you’re at the Market this week and experience a therapeutic massage from Kim Deane of Healing in Reach. Kim will be available for mini massage sessions and will have information on her studio and services. Kim specializes in acupressure, deep tissue, medical massage, hot stone, prenatal massage, energy healing and organic skincare. She offers a unique approach that combines a blend of traditional massage with her own techniques as a physical and spiritual healer.

Recently move? Change your name? Just turn 18? Make sure you are eligible to vote in the next election and stop by the Voter Registration Table at the Market this Sunday! The last day to register to be able to vote in November is October 6. This is a non-partisan, unaffiliated group of volunteers.

Happy PA Produce Month! 🎉

Pa Veggie Month and National Farmers Market Week

August is the height of the produce season in Pa, and we’re celebrating at the Market! Shop every Sunday in August for the freshest, local produce. If you’re on Instagram, you can also follow us as we take over the Pa Veggies Instagram account (@paveggies) this Sunday! This account features farmers and Markets from around the state, and we are so honored to have been chosen as one of their featured Markets! We’ll be posting fun facts about our vendors and featuring their amazing produce. We’ll also be welcoming our supporters to share their favorite Pa produce as well. If you’d like to share something with us for Instagram, please see a Market Volunteer! If you’re on Instagram, we’d also appreciate you liking our posts on the @paveggies account. Let the state know what an amazing community Media is, and how much they support their local farmers and produce!

Veggie Storytime with Miss Emily

Veggies can be fun for kids too! Stop by the blue tent next to the Manager’s Tent for some fun, veggie-based stories. Miss Emily will feature a new book, Zombies Don’t Eat Veggies, among others. Children will also have the opportunity to sample Mo Zombie’s “Blood Bile Bisque” soup, featuring lots of fresh, PA veggies! (Don’t worry grownups, it’s really a Garden Gazpacho!) Kids can also feed veggies to the very hungry caterpillar.

The Pasta Lab Named Best Handmade Pasta in Philly

Our very own Pasta Lab has been featured in Philly Magazine as one of the 5 best handmade pastas in Philly! They especially liked their agnolotti, lumache and garganelli, made from farm eggs and local fresh-milled whole grains. Read the article here, and then make sure you stop by their table at the Market to see what fresh pastas they have available this week!

Hazel and Ash

Hazel and Ash Organics returns to the Market this week. Stop by for their amazing sauces, chutneys, and relishes, including their Spicy Cucumber Relish.
