WIC Returns to the Market
The Foundation for Delaware County WIC Program will be visiting the market this Sunday. An experienced nutritionist will be on hand to answer questions about how to get kids to eat a greater variety of fruits and vegetables. There will be seasonal recipes available, as well as a fun game for the kids. All participating WIC families that stop by their table will receive a reusable grocery tote with measuring spoon, measuring cup, and will be eligible to enter a drawing for a toddler MyPlate!
Come out to the Market this week to meet our two new vendors: Miikana Woodworking and New-Bee Ranch!
Miikana Woodworking Father and son Paul and Zack Huberty started their own Chester County woodworking shop in 2015 and, since then, have been dedicated to using locally harvested native hardwoods to create traditional style furniture and cutting boards. Paul explains that “miikana” is the Ojibwe word for trail or path. It represents the path that they are taking in life and this adventure to design and build beautiful furniture. Miikana also represents their Native American heritage. They want to honor this heritage in everything they do from building furniture that highlights the natural beauty of wood to ensuring that they efficiently use this important natural resource. This week they will feature their french rolling pins in walnut and cherry.
New-Bee Ranch New-Bee Ranch is a small, family-run farm and apiary from West Montgomery County. They will be coming to the Market with varieties of local honey fresh from the hives, plus their family recipes of fermented foods and pickles, all using locally grown ingredients from the neighboring farms or from their own garden.
Learn Safe Canning
Learn how to put up your own vegetables, fruit, and jam. Linda Coulston will demonstrate safe canning techniques and provide helpful hints and tips so you can preserve summer-fresh food to enjoy all year long. Stop by her table from 9 to 1 for her demonstrations, handouts, and tastings!
This week we will welcome the Hearing Loss Association in America (HLAA) to the Market! HLAA is the nation’s leading organization representing individuals with hearing loss. Its mission is to open the world of communication to people with hearing loss by providing information, education, support, and advocacy. HLAA offers state and local support chapters, including seven chapters in the Philadelphia region, as well as education programs and events. To learn more about HLAA, and to get information about the Walk4Hearing, a national walk program that reaches out to more than 48 million people with hearing loss, their families, friends, and hearing health professionals, please visit their table.

We love it when our vendors team up, and that’s just what Jerry’s Breads (Media Bean and Bakery) and Whiskey Hollow are doing this week! Stop by Whiskey Hollow’s tent this week to sample both their tangy and hot maple mustards with Jerry’s fabulous soft pretzels. The pretzels come in various flavors, so come find your favorite combo!
Wilson’s Curiously Good Foods spices things up with new flavor!
Stop by Wilson’s Curiously Good Foods to add a little spice to your life with their new posset flavor: Sweet Corn Sriracha! Posset is a traditional dessert made of flavored thickened cream. Nether Providence taking limited edition preorders this week!
Nether Providence Soap Company returns this week, and will be taking holiday preorders for her new Alpine Frost shea butter solseie soap! While it is a bit early to be thinking about the holidays, maker Saarene needs at least an eight week lead time to make and properly cure the soaps, and they can only be made in small batches. Stop by her tent to smell a sample, and then place your order now! This soap may be available closer to the holidays, but it will be in very limited quantities. So don’t miss your chance to get this special soap!
Pasture Song Farm returns this week with a brand new bag!
Pasture Song Farm will be back at the Market this week, and besides all of their usual, yummy meat products, they will be bringing something special this week: canvas tote bags! These adorable bags are all organic cotton and made in the USA. Get yours at the Market this week. Red Brick Craft Distillery will be making their debut at the Market tomorrow! Based in Philadelphia, they specialize in small-batch whiskey and other spirits made with local ingredients.
Red Brick makes small batch, artisanal, award-winning whiskeys, rum, and moonshine using Pennsylvania grains. They also feature From the Woods, a unique spirit inspired by Pennsylvania Dutch birch beer. They make their own birch beer fermented with wildflower honey and brown sugar and naturally flavored with black birch, which is then distilled and aged in barrels after they’ve been used to make their award-winning single malt whiskey. The Minor Adjustments are returning to the Market this week as well! They are an acoustic jam band based out of Media, PA consisting of 4 members: Graham Brewer on mandolin, Jacob Brewer on guitar, Sarah Scarborough on vocals, and Peter Subramanian on fiddle. Their sound takes influences from bluegrass and country to jazz and blues, aiming for a diverse musical palette spanning genres while sticking to the simplistic roots of acoustic sound.

Have you checked out Gail’s Egg Farm and Midnite Mushrooms yet this year? Featuring many gorgeous varieties of mushrooms, delicious mushroom jerky, and farm fresh eggs, they’re a real family farm from Vineland, NJ. Gail shared this photo with us of her son and their first lamb, Sweetie Pie. Who could resist such sweet faces?!

Trucks will be on the Beatty Road side of the shopping center. E-Waste: Recycle almost anything with a plug for free! Old style TV’s and CRT Monitors do require a disposal fee. Shredding: Documents with sensitive information that need to be shredded, no CDs or DVDs.
Participate in the Cornell University Farmers Market Survey: Across much of the United States, farmers’ markets have reported a decrease in consumer participation over the last couple of years, resulting in a decrease in farm sales and income. In an attempt to understand and reverse this slump, a multi-state study is being undertaken by Cornell University. Follow this link to participate in the survey.

Providence Animal Center will be joining us this week at the Market, and will have some adoptable furry pals for you to meet! Providence Animal Center (formerly known as the Delco SPCA), located at 555 Sandy Bank Road, is a lifesaving animal welfare organization that offers life‐affirming rescue, medical care, treatment, protection and placement of companion animals. In addition to rescue and adoption services, Providence Animal Center offers low-cost wellness and behavior services to all pet owners as well as humane investigations of owned pets in the community that may be neglected or abused. Stop by their table to meet some adorable adoptables, to learn more about their services or their current dog kennel building campaign!

Did you know that you can use your SNAP/WIC/Senior checks at the Media Farmers Market? You can! These benefits can be used at vendors selling uncooked, unprepared foods. Sharrah Orchards, Kneehigh Farm, and Robin Hill Organics can all accept these benefits. You cannot use them towards alcohol or any foods that are considered ready-to-eat. If you’re not sure if a potential purchase qualifies, please ask the vendor or any of the volunteers at the Manager’s Table.

Turn in those old tokens!
With the new season and new vendors, we are happy to share the good news that most vendors now accept credit/debit cards directly at their tables, making it easier for you to shop! However, this means that our iconic Market Tokens have become obsolete. If you still have tokens left from previous years, we will still honor them at the Manager’s Table. Vendors will no longer be accepting tokens, so please bring your remaining tokens to the Manger’s Table to redeem them before shopping!
